Twitter is a powerful marketing tool that can drive tons of new customers to your business. But like most social media networks, you must first develop a group of loyal followers. Only then can you use Twitter to effectively promote your brand. So, what’s the best way to get more Twitter followers?
Follow Other Users
Following other Twitter users may sound somewhat counterproductive, but this is an incredibly easy (and effective) way to attract followers to your account. When a user notices that you are follow them, he or she may choose to return the favor by following your account. This “reciprocal following” is beneficial for everyone, but you should keep in mind that Twitter has restrictions on the number of accounts you can follow.
Link Facebook to Twitter
Did you know that you can link your Facebook and Twitter accounts so all new Facebook posts are automatically published on your Twitter account and vise-versa? To link your Facebook account to Twitter, visit https://www.facebook.com/twitter and follow the instructions. To link Twitter to Facebook, follow the instructions at https://support.twitter.com. Linking your social media accounts together will increase the visibility of your posts, which should in turn attract more followers.
Tweet Quotes
Quotes are particularly effective on Twitter given its limit of 140 characters of less. I recommend diversifying your content using a combination of text, images, video, links, retweets, and of course quotes. Users will notice your quotes, some of whom will follow your account to receive updates on new quotes posted by you.
If you need help finding quotes that are relevant to your niche/industry, check out BrainyQuote. This free-to-use website has well over one million quotes. Just search for a keyword and it will reveal quotes containing that keyword.
Use Hashtags
We’ve talked about this before on our blog, but it’s worth mentioning again that hashtags can be used to boost the visibility of your tweets, and thus attract more followers. When you tweet something, try to include at least one relevant hashtag pertaining to its content. Doing so will make your tweets easier to find, as users may stumble upon them when searching for the hashtag.
Engage With Other Users
When another user tweets you (e.g. sending a tweet with @yourTwittername), be sure to respond. Engaging with other Twitter users will prove highly effective at attracting new followers. If you are able to draw the attention of a high-profile user, this alone can yield tons of new followers – but only if you take the time to respond to them.
